In case there is any confusion, let’s set the record straight: duck hunting with unprotected ears causes hearing loss. As hearing doctors at TETRA, we see what years of waterfowl hunting does to our patients. Recent studies show that people with hearing loss are more likely to develop dementia, Alzheimers and other chronic health problems.* Hearing loss impacts overall health and wellness, and ruins the hunting experience.
So why do 86% of hunters NOT use hearing protection? Previous products have distorted the sound of the call, either over-amplified everything or blocked out your surroundings, and just weren’t comfortable. We solved those problems with the TETRA Shield Series. Using our patent-pending Specialized Target Optimization (STO) voices and calling are clear and natural while AlphaShield Compression reduces loud sounds to safe levels.
AlphaShield is a small, extremely comfortable, one-size-fits-all solution. AlphaShield provides great comfort and great protection without the need for an ear impression.
TETRA isn’t just hearing protection, it’s hearing perfection.

Specialized Target Optimization
Our hearing devices feature patent-pending Specialized Target Optimization™ (STO). STO is the world’s first hearing technology that isolates and enhances the exact frequencies needed to improve hearing for your specific hunting environment. With STO, voices are clear, calling sounds natural, wood duck squeals, whistling wings, and mallard drakes are all easily audible.
TETRA products instantly shut down and instantly recover for sudden loud noises, like gunshots, providing the wearer full protection at the very moment it’s needed. For more sustained loud inputs, like loud calling, AlphaShield Compression® limits the overall output to a safe level, then returns to normal amplification once the loud input has stopped. Never miss a sound you want to hear, and protect your hearing for life.
ClearComm™ is our proprietary algorithm that accentuates human speech while minimizing noises and distractions that occur outside of the frequency range of human voices. ClearComm is useful for better understanding speech and whispers of hunting partners, hearing speech on the range, as well as in other daily activities that require better hearing.

Hearing and the Brain
Research at Johns Hopkins University suggests that more hearing loss increases the risk of dementia. In one study, people with hearing loss were 24% more likely to have Alzheimer’s.*
With hearing loss, our brains have to work much harder to make sense of what is being said, and even harder to filter out speech from unwanted background noise. Simply trying to understand conversations requires more mental energy and concentration.
If basic conversations take up most of our mental energy, there is less opportunity for our brains to sort out and store other information.
At TETRA, our goal is to minimize hearing loss for hunters and shooters, because research shows if we reduce hearing loss, we can also reduce the chance of getting dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Top notch customer service, the Alphashields aren't half bad either
I haven't had the opportunity to use these on a hunt yet, but the customer service of this company is top notch. William is the man. I'll update as soon as goose season opens in VT on 9/1 but really glad I purchased these!
Worth every dollar, and excellent customer service
I haven’t owned my alphashields for too long but my experience with them for hunting any kind of bird and shooting has been good. My hearing is important in my profession so eat protection is dire but most aren’t good to hunt with. These don’t distort sound, doesn’t dampen volume of anything but the shots or when someone cuts down on a call that would typically hurt my ear. What’s just as good as the product is the customer service - the boys will help you out if you need anything. I won’t go on a hunt from here on out without them.
Hi, love to talk about this. Am n a pit in MO snow goose huntin right now. Product is good for skeet but I cannot hear myself call geese. It does not amplify enough also.
Best I have used
I suffer from tinnitus and have tried a number of different electronic hearing protections for hunting. I can say with certainty these are the best. I took them to Spain on a driven partridge hunt and even after 600 shells in two days I did not notice any increase in the ringing. Would recommend to anyone who takes hearing protection seriously
Can't say they were worth it
I gave them a full season before reviewing them. They do what they are supposed to but I'm not impressed with them. It's still pretty difficult to hear conversations in the blind and they are not nearly as comfortable as I would have hoped. I had to take them out and give my ears a break about every half hour. They do not cancel wind noise which is a pain as well. For the price, I am not impressed with the warranty either. They get two stars because my ears don't ring when I get done with a hunt. Which I could have accomplished with a pair of foam plugs.
